FIELDS OF
SCIENTIFIC AND PROFESSIONAL DIRECTIONS
K.J.Haralambous
is an Associate Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department with interest
in Materials Chemistry as well as Environmental Chemistry.
Her scientific interests are directed towards the polution
of the natural environment and specifically on chemical processes and analysis
of metals in various environmental systems. She has also been involved in
research on the production, indentification and determination of metal oxides
properties, in particularly on ferrites of the lanthanides, as well as with
problems associated with the corrosion and protection of metals.
More specifically, her research and development activities
are related with the following topics (i) the determination of the pollution
level and the assessment of the environmental impacts resulting from the
presence of heavy metals and other pollutants in natural recipients.
(ii) the treatment of solid waste and industrial sludges
containing heavy metals (e.g. stabilisation of heavy metals incorporated in
sludges, thermal treatment of solid waste and sludges aiming primarly on the
inactivation of the metal load etc) (iii) the treatment and the sustainable
disposal of industrial wastewater and sludges, (iv) the remediation of marine
sediments, sludges originating from
biological treatments processes,
